Job Interview Tips
04/13/2019

So your 3 years are almost over and it's time to enter the real world!
Interviews can be scary at the best of times, but especially when you've been working towards something for 3 years. Don't stress, if you plan early, practise and keep positive, you will survive! But just in case, here's a few tips to help you along the way:
- Research that employer and make sure you know their values and goals
- Research the job description and person specification (which you can normally find on the job application) and make of note how you and your skills fit in with these
- Re-read your job application beforehand to refresh your memory and in case you are asked anything specific
- Try to think of real life examples that back up your skills and give genuine answers
- Be aware of your body language, sit in an open position and don't slouch
- Take time when answering questions, employers will prefer a well thought answer than someone just waffling on the second they've been asked the question
- Try to bring in elements of the NMC code e.g. compassion, communication
- Have a question prepared for the employer, it shows interest and enthusiasm
- Make sure your have the correct documents with you e.g. I.D, your portfolio
- Turn up on time, well dressed and SMILE!
Even if it all goes horribly wrong (which it probably won't!), use the experience and learn from it. The more interviews you do, the more comfortable you will feel with them, so things can only get better!
